Final Fantasy Agito XIII (PSP)

Japanese narration mentioned “crystals” several times. The CGI was presented in a very stylized, filtered way like old war propaganda films. A Nazi-like military regime was shown coming to order. Airships launched an attack on a city below. Cut to gameplay footage of battle with several large monsters. It looks like Agito will include some card battle elements, as several CG shots of characters tossing cards at enemies were shown. The trailer ended with a rebel army rising up against the oppressive military regime.

In Agito, you play as a student who attends a magic school. Following an attack on your capital city of Rebrum by the Empire of Milites, which uses its own technology to make the crystals of its opponents ineffective, your fellow students end up leading the cause to free the city.

Students in your school all have their own specialties when it comes to weapons. When you first start out the game, you get to select the character type of your preference.

The game’s battle system has the look of a traditional menu-based system, with a menu offering selections for attack, heal, and classic Final Fantasy spells. You face off against both soldiers from the invading army and against monsters.

Gameplay

The battle system will be similar to that of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, but will make use of the ATB system and allow control of multiple characters. Summoned creatures will be making a reappearance (so far only Odin has been confirmed) and will be under player control similarly to Final Fantasy X.

Gameplay

Spells and special attacks seem to be assigned their own buttons for activation; recently revealed pictures show a list beside the selected character’s face. A compass has also been revealed in recent screenshots. Characters have been shown traversing dungeons of mechanical foes and soldiers. Playable characters alongside the nameless lead (nicknamed “Card-Kun”) are shown the screenshots with rather high HP and low MP costs to their magic spell in their command list. Like in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, names of foes are stated under “Target” on screen on the upper lefthand side, also stated in a recent article by Weekly Famitsu each of the twelve students will have their own summon, that can be swapped out and controlled by the player; so far the only confirmed summon is Odin.

It’s widely believed due to information gathered by interviews with the staff, that only 3 of the 12 characters (the uniformed students) previously revealed will be directly tied to the plot. It’s implied that the three will join up with other characters who are not students from their school but from different parts of the world. The other 9 students will be used by other players during a co-op mode.
