Wow. How is it that this game gets 3.5 Stars on Amazon? Goes to show you … Buncha people are a Philistine.
When I fired up this game, I did not know what to expect. I was a little less linear than the disappointing BioShock hope and a little more immersive than the 'sport' as Halo series of shooters.
What I finally discovered that STALKER one of the most innovative and immersive games I have played is in the last ten years. The otherReviews describe here a good job, the game, so I'll keep my review short and sweet:
STALKER meets the desire for fast-paced FPS action, nail-biting game of survival stress and a detailed world and varied opportunities for play style in RPGs. The graphics are great, even for the year 2010, and in contrast to many modern games, it runs well on most modern computers (I'm using a Core 2 Quad 2.66 GHz, 8 GB RAM and a GeForce 9800GT and can not have the load times or complainsmooth frame rate).
My only wish is that the fight would be in this game a little more graphic … I do not know why there would be only a little cooler when it will be more blood and gore. Just my preference as a stupid gamer. Everything else is the point … Music is sparse, but tasteful and comfortable as h * ll, fluid gameplay and are satisfactory, living environments, well thought out and well executed, and the storyling is first class.
Not for children, not for people looking for a "Hollywood"Style game (cookie cutter, Michael Bay-style) … Surviving in the Zone of alienation twisted alternate reality STALKER Chernobyl's last thought, finesse and attention. You're never quite sure – always dealing with wounds, starvation, radiation, dangerous 'anomalies', marauding bandits, hostile military, bloodthirsty mutants, even worse armor and weapons. This is a game for you to keep on the edge of your seat long into the night, knowing you should have gone to bed hours earlier, butnot out of desire to see what's coming to do next.
I really enjoyed this game and can not praise enough. Hats off to THQ for supporting a truly innovative and immersive game like STALKER I think … It is a must for anyone wanting to buy a good non-linear FPS or survival-oriented RPG interested.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl Overview
The world’s worst nuclear disaster occurred on April 26, 1986, at the Chernobyl power facility in the Ukraine. The area slowly recovered until 2006 when an unforeseen second explosion rocked the landscape, leaving a vast “Exclusion Zone” plagued with deadly energy disturbances in its wake. The quarantined Exclusion Zone expanded over time, and by 2012, specially equipped poachers, known as S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s, venture into the Zone to claim radioactive artifacts for the black market. You are a new S.T.A.L.K.E.R. battling for survival among rivals, soldiers and mutant creatures while trying to discover the true nature of Chernobyl’s dark past and horrific future.

Could’ve been more atmospheric, but too clunky and slapped together – Blejowski – Melbourne, Australia
I had heard that one of the most atmospheric games Stalker was out there, and loved the same with Tarkovsky film under the name, I was ready to love this game. But although I have to press me to it in the hope that it would suck me in holding back, just keep it and left me cold. In the end, after 20 + hours, I gave up.
The graphics are acceptable, but a few things that regularly break the atmosphere. The dialogue with the most NPCs feel of wood, and this is made worse by inconsistent modesCommunication: Sometimes people speak English, Ukrainian, sometimes, and sometimes they still remain, but "talk" via text boxes. It's hard to feel held in a credible, if your calls, as outgrown together hastily after the game hit its VoiceOver budget were feeling.
Wrestling with the convoluted interface is not fun either. I like the "PC games are intelligent and detailed" philosophy, but this interface seems poorly designed, not to mention ugly.Just checking your card, as you travel is a hassle, and the inventory system will quickly clunky, since you spend so much time juggling your items fit under the weight ratio.
The combat system is pretty good (and murderously difficult on the hardest setting, which is great if you want a real challenge). The AI is smart and unpredictable, and some nail-biting shoot-outs are intense, even the most careful strategy where scratches and hardly qualified shooting through you. Movement feelsunnatural, though. For example, do not sit smoothly lower the prospect, but at present it appears in the lower position. Things like this make you feel less like a person moving a real landscape, and more like a camera move a 3D engine.
Overall, it is a game worth considering, and if your boat, then great swimmer. But for a game that requires so much of your time and effort, I found it too unpolished and clunky. I just have never really connected with the history or theCharacters, and instead of a deep influence, atmosphere, I thought it was just monotonous.
Unbelievable this game IS the best game ever – M. Noall – Under a rock
I have all three stalkers and each one is awesome. Graphics rock and play is unlimited. No way anyone can finish this game in a day or 24 hours. The game is humongous.
My experience: its broken – driver01z –
Note – possible spoiler:
It looks like it with this game potential, and it was decent reviews, so I decided to play through it. Perhaps it should have been a certain mentality I have had – and I enjoy a variety of games, even games that are not conventional or different. I tried to enjoy it, but it has its own way if that makes sense. I have to enjoy the shooting (as I did with most FPS's), to a certain point. But at one point, you die in just a few shots from a sniper, that onehard to see, and if you try to snipe him die – you – you load your last save. Or are you moving through a building with a dozen enemies, and you have to move them to see them to shoot them, of course, but if you move in their direction of view – they shoot you, of course, and some flank of them, so that you can not cover them, and you can not shoot while moving cause of the guns "(realistic) inaccuracy have – so you either take forever to wait for the guysMoving to the area where you are, or die-reload his goal, punching reload. And the enemies are armored, so they take more than a full clip to kill one – unless you want to head, but take a lot of luck that, although several of them are on the move and inject below. Its like the AI is set too heavy. Pure realism is not funny because a dozen enemies certainly an advantage over a person.
I turned the difficulty to Novice, but it still was not fun. At the endof the game I decided, a cheat mod, which I use unlimited health and radiation resistance – it was the only way I could get to the end of any semblance of entertainment. And – you are not required to find out the story to "finish" the game. I had two goals in my task list. I chose one based on the one that can be passed through the end of the game. If I had chosen the other (the search for the character Doc), would I have found my character's history and understand the story more- But I had no way of knowing that this would be another target have been better, and it was not necessary. So in the end I never had any information from the Doc had character, and I saw a final film that almost made no sense. There are multiple endings depending on your actions through the game, but none of them would have made sense in my situation. Sun end of the game was not entertaining. I have since seen the story online, and it would be fun if I had known, theQuests to follow, to reveal it.
So that was my experience – I was disappointed, and I do not understand why this game was positively received.
